Dr. Jean-Francois (Jeff) Lafortune has a Masters in Nuclear Engineering and a Ph.D. in Chemical and Nuclear Engineering. He has 34 years experience in nuclear safety and operations, emergency management, civil aviation safety management and CBRNE program development, as well as 13 years experience as a Naval Officer. He is the General Manager of the ISR Middle East Branch.

Jeff Lafortune recently completed a three-year posting with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) where he was responsible for the development of international safety standards and capacity building in nuclear and radiological emergency preparedness and response in all Member States.

Dr. Lafortune has managed projects and programs in over 20 countries. His expertise in safety management spans several sectors, including primarily: nuclear and radiological operations, emergency management, civil aviation, CBRN counterterrorism, major public events, pandemic management, and drinking water security. He has developed and implemented several innovative training programs and senior educational courses. He is the author of several international standards and guidance documents on emergency management and response to terrorist events.

Dr. Lafortune served for six years on the former Canadian Advisory Committee on Radiological Protection, which reported to the President of the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission. He has worked as Expert for the International Atomic Energy Agency since 1992 in areas of radiation protection, emergency response, counterterrorism and accident investigation.
