Dr. Burton is a LRCP (Licentiate of the Royal College of Physicians of London, 1983) and a MRCS (Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of London, 1983) and holds a MSc in Radiobiology from St Bartholomew’s Hospital & Medical School in London, UK (1992). He also holds a DFFP (Diploma in Family Planning, College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, London) and a LMCC (Licentiate of the Medical Council of Canada, 2001).

Dr. Burton has extensive experience in the CBRN and emergency response disciplines and has served as a Senior Medical Officer and Senior Radiation Medicine specialist, in the Royal Air Force. He was a Principal in General Practice in UK and practiced Family Medicine in Alberta (Fort Macleod) and Ontario (Kemptville).

He has held positions as the Deputy Chief of Staff, Medical Operations (Countermeasures), specifically NBC, Canadian Forces Military Headquarters, Department of National Defence Canada (June 2002 – 2005). He also served as a member of the NARO (Nuclear Accident Response Organisation), a military and civilian organisation that would respond to any nuclear weapons accident incidents. More recently he has contributed to training and exercises in emergency response to incidents involving ionising radiation for Health Canada and CSS. He has also worked with CQC (Care Quality Commission), as an inspector of medical practices in the UK.
